Boo Hewerdine is well known as one of the greatest (and busiest) songwriter performers in the business, but incredibly, it’s been 7 years since Boo released his last studio album of original material God Bless The Pretty Things (Reveal Records 2009). Not that Hewerdine has been inactive, far from it, the period has been the most productive of his career.
Boo wrote Radio Ballads for the BBC’s Olympic and recent Child Migration series. Elsewhere new songs were commissioned for art galleries and museums, including the Beneath The Dark Cloth project at the Met in New York.
There has been a huge array of writing and producing with both established and upcoming artists and ‘passing something on’ to budding writers via his much loved songwriting workshops.
Boo spent three years writing a daily blog which lead to podcast fun with that staff of The WORD (RIP) and invitations to join Radio broadcasts such as The Verb (BBC Radio 3) and a moment of personal satisfaction when his work was included in the radio round up Pick Of The Week on BBC Radio 4.
Tankus The Henge
Tankus the Henge are the London based, five wheeled, funk fuelled, open top, custom paint job, rock ‘n’ roll jalopy that comes careering round the corner on a tranquil summer’s day. Ruining the silence and disturbing the bats.
Foot to the floor, blindfold on, smoking oil and gasoline with a trail of destruction in their wake.
“Like The Clash from New Orleans” Nikolaj Torp Larsen – The Specials
Having played over 1000 shows all over the world the Tankus the Henge live experience is something to behold. They played over 30 festival shows in 2015 including Isle of Wight, Glastonbury, Boomtown, Port Eliot, WOMAD, and main support to Jools Holland at Looe Festival in Cornwall.
With their charismatic frontman, Jaz Delorean, looking like a lost character from a Terry Gilliam film, Tankus the Henge launch into their live shows like a band possessed.
Of their first album:
“….a virtual carnival of sound that’s high on energy and deep on soul. With copious helpings of R&B blues, funk, disco, Django, a dose of Dexy’s, a drop of Ray Davies and a pinch of Madness emerging throughout the eleven tracks – it’s an exciting mélange of sound.” Simon Wells (Guardian)
Kit Hawes and Aaron Catlow
It was the Balkan mayhem of Sheelanagig that first brought young Carnyvillian guitar demon Kit Hawes and Medicine Creek fiddle maniac Aaron Catlow together. But they soon found there was a whole world of roots music they also had in common and so here they are, sneaking out from their usual band duties to traverse the country with a rich stock of tales and traditional tunes. Drawing on folk repertoire from both sides of the Atlantic, their insightful musicianship is matched by their warm and witty repartee and they are sure to charm all who hear them.
The live show is a musical journey through Europe, America and beyond; combining dazzling playing with a fine sense of musicality and showmanship.
